The family that invented a dessert

In 1961 the Daouk family layered ground pistachio over fresh ashta, poured syrup on top, and accidentally invented a dessert the whole city now calls by their name. The Tareek Jdeede shop near Cola is where the Daoukieh was born and where it's still made the original way — along with baklava, maamoul, znoud and every classic in the vitrine.

Their daoukieh hits the spot, creamy and with a nice pistachio crunch.
