من برّا، واجهة أبلق سودا وبيضا بتحمل اسم موناليزا على شارع باب توما. ومن جوّا، بيت شامي قديم بحوش وبحرة وقناطر عالية — وبالليل بيلبس ضوّه الأزرق والذهبي، فبتصير القاعة الكبيرة أشبه بلوحة معلّقة عالحيط.From the street, a black-and-white ablaq façade carrying the name Monalisa on Bab Touma. Inside, an old Damascene house with a courtyard, a fountain and tall arches — and by night it dresses in blue and gold light, until the great hall looks like a painting hung on the wall.

والسفرة على قدّ المكان: فتوش زوّارنا بيكتبوا إنهم لليوم عم يحلموا فيه، كبة نية بالجوز، مشاوي ودجاج على مهل، وخاتمة حلوة من البيت. والترحيب؟ هاد توقيع الدار — تعالوا مرة، بترجعوا كل مرة.And the table lives up to the room: a fattoush our guests write they still dream about, kibbeh nayyeh with walnuts, slow grills and chicken, and a sweet house finale.
