The shop
A tiny Vietnamese kitchen on Gertrude Street
2T Cafe sits behind a deep-green shopfront at 130 Gertrude St, under a black hand-lettered sign. It is a small, quick, honest operation: the bread is crusty, the egg butter and pâté are made in house, and the pickled carrot and coriander go on to order, never before.
The bánh mì is the reason people cross Fitzroy for it, named in nearly every review, and the regulars treat the place like a daily habit: in, out, fed, for around ten dollars. The board runs deeper than the rolls, with bún noodle bowls, steam rice plates, garden salads and rice paper rolls packed fresh in the cabinet.
